Why did you become a Natal Hypnotherapist?
In my work as a midwife I have seen how using Natal Hypnotherapy has really had an impact and helped women to have relaxed, positive birth experiences.
I am passionate about delivering the care I feel women and their partners deserve and being a Natal Hypnotherapy Practitioner enables me to achieve this.
I trained to become a midwife as a mature student but I think I have always been a midwife at heart, deeply believing in a womans ability to birth well, given the right conditions and mindset.
I lived in Southern Ireland for many years and I started to help women friends at their births as they asked me to be their support partner (or Doula). The women gave birth at home, many with great ease as we all strongly believed in our abilities to give birth as well as supporting one another.
My own children were born easily and quickly and breastfed well.
My three main philosophies around birth are:-
That women and partners should be the focus of care in a quiet safe environment, feeling in charge, not “done unto” and empowered to make informed choices about their care and respected for those decisions.
That birth is an amazing experience that needs to be treated with greater respect in our society as the manner in which women, partners and babies are treated in pregnancy and birth impacts on their lives and so on the rest of society.
That even hospitalised, interventionist births can be positive and empowering for women and partners and positive for the baby if the parents are given excellent supportive care and are treated with respect and kindness.
My other skills
I Trained as a reflexologist in 1994 and I incorporate this into the care I provide. Qualified as a midwife in 1994, spent 5 years working as a NHS midwife and a further 8 as an Independent Midwife.
