Why did you become a Natal Hypnotherapist?
I have seen many births and believe that a woman’s confidence in her ability to birth her baby is crucial in how she feels about the experience afterwards.
Natal Hypnotherapy gives women and their partners the tools to increase their confidence and face the challenges of childbirth and parenting.
My commitment to natural birthing dates from when my daughters were born in 1983, 1986, and 1992. The two eldest have also had daughters, I supported them with home waterbirths, and I am proud to be mother and grandmother to many girls.
I have been involved in birthing pool hire since 1992, and have run the business as a national concern since 2001 after completing Midwifery training.
In December 2006 I started to train as a Natal Hypnotherapy Practitioner with Maggie as I saw it would increase my own personal skills in relation to helping prepare couples for birth. To date I have supported several women using the techniques taught by the course and have been impressed both by their calmness and ability to cope and also by their understanding of the birthing process.
My belief is that raising children well is one of the most important jobs in the world, and I feel privileged to support families taking their first steps in that role.
My three main philosophies regarding birth are:-
1. Birthing consciously, with preparation and awareness enhances the experience. It increases self esteem and improves parenting skills.
2. Birth is a powerful event; its transformative magic can be felt even beyond the immediate circle of family and friends.
3. Preparation and forward planning (even for the unpredictable) will give new expectant parents confidence in their abilities.
My other skills
I have taught childbirth preparation classes, and have been offering Doula services since 2000, I run waterbirth information sessions and have a selection of birthing and breastfeeding aids to hire, sell and lend.
