Sarah Claridge's profile

Why I became a practitioner

To be able to provide women with coping strategies to enable them to stay calm, focused and relaxed during pregnancy and labour and improve their birth experiences.

During my training as a midwife I developed a deep respect for the power of the birthing woman. There is nothing better than watching a woman listening to and understanding her body, and birthing her baby with gentle encouragement. I love to see parents connecting with their unborn baby, hearing about the baby’s already developing personality, and finally seeing the faces of new parents as they stare at the baby they have waited so long and worked so hard for.

My core beliefs surrounding pregnancy and birth

I believe that a birthing woman should be surrounded and supported by those who love and have faith in her.

She should be empowered to listen to her body and trust in her birthing instincts. She is the expert on HER body.

If intervention becomes necessary she should be given as much time, space and information as she and her birth supporters need to make an informed decision.

My experience of working with pregnant women and my personal experience of Natal Hypnotherapy

I worked as a Midwife in a busy South London hospital, doing both Community Clincs, Homebirths, & Delivery Suite Care, from 2005 - 2008.

In 2008, I gave birth to my own Natal Hypnotherapy Baby, & although I didn't have the stereotypical "perfect birth", my daughters birth was such a positive experince for me, I can't wait to have my next child! (See my website for the full birth story!)

I love Natal Hypnotherapy! It's so powerful, & yet it's not Rocket Science! It's easy to learn, easy to practice & easy to use!

What I feel women gain from attending my course

I love to watch a couple's confidence grow over the course. It's wonderful to watch as their fears make way to a confidence they didn't know they had!

I love to watch their trust in each other bloom, & to watch the Partners realise that they are not going to feel like the "Spare Part" at the birth, that they often hear others talk about, because of the skills they learn together.

I love to watch them leave at the end of the course talking about how excited they are about giving birth.

My related qualifications & associations

BSc (Hons) Midwifery.
NMC (Nursing & Midwifery Council)
RCM (Royal College of Midwives)
