Shona Kitchener's profile

Why I became a practitioner

I want to help to enrich future childrens’ lives with the theories of natural pregnancy & birth and encourage more parents to trust themselves and each other. I strongly feel that society needs to return to the more physical, trusting and loving way of life that is natural to our species.

After using Natal Hypnotherapy throughout my pregnancy I wanted to share the experience with other mothers in my area. I feel genuinely excited at the prospect of sharing everything I have learnt about Natal Hypnotherapy with other families and in helping to enrich the wonderful experience of pregnancy and birth.

My core beliefs surrounding pregnancy and birth

My three main philosophies about pregnancy & birth are:
I believe that by choosing a natural, active pregnancy and birth both mother & child will benefit from reduced recovery times, reduced medical intervention, increased rates of breastfeeding and stronger bonding that will last throughout their lifetime.

That parents who have confidence in their natural abilities to create and nurture a new life will continue to provide a positive environment for their children to grow in. By turning to the strength of ones own body and mind first before medical or chemical intervention this will further serve to build these beliefs.

To raise awareness and promote understanding that a positive pregnancy experience does not start and end at the birth. Emotions and memories of the birth should be treated with admiration and respect and never with disappointment or regret.

My experience of working with pregnant women and my personal experience of Natal Hypnotherapy

I first discovered the Natal Hypnotherapy CD's before I was even pregnant after reading about the techniques in an article on natural birth. I used the programme throughout my pregnancy and only wish I had attended a Birth Preparation Course too more for my partner than anything else.

I had a fantastic pregnancy and loved sharing the special time the CD's created together with my baby. Although I didn't have my 'perfect' birth I strongly feel that Natal Hypnotherapy allowed me to still have a positive birth that I look back on with a real sense of joy and amazement!

Since starting my training to become a Practitioner I have met even more mums who have used Natal Hypnotherapy techniques and this has only made me more excited than ever to share this with other families.

What I feel women gain from attending my course

I believe that by attending the course women will be more aware of the power of the mind, the strength of the body and the importance of family bonding. No other courses available can be described as true 'Birth Preparation Courses' as the Natal Hypnotherapy courses are for both the mother and her birth partner.
